Job Description

OneDrive is Microsoft’s solution for cloud file storage - the one place for all your important documents, files and folders, photos, videos and more, across work and life, and on all your devices.  SharePoint is Microsoft's solution for managing business and education intranets, data workflows, and critical customer data.  As we continue to grow our market share, we are faced with many core infrastructure and scale challenges driving a need to build resilient systems while ensuring no customers are impacted throughout the change management lifecycle. The OneDrive and SharePoint team is looking for a motivated and excellent Principal Software Engineering Manager to be a part of this journey.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who is passionate about building a great team and who puts people and culture at the forefront, someone who is not afraid to dig into hard engineering problems to improve the core fundamentals of our systems, add critical and exciting new features, revolutionize how our engineers work day-to-day, and try new things like bringing the power of machine learning and statistical analysis at scale to solve these and other problems.  You will have an opportunity to work with peers across the company in Office, Azure and Microsoft365.  You will guide a team of engineers, mentoring them through this journey and providing technical and architectural leadership as we evolve our scalable, distributed service.

This specific position will manage the Convergence migration and metadata team within the OneDrive and SharePoint org. We have embarked on a multiyear journey merging the consumer backend from OneDrive service to the SharePoint service and we are just getting started here. You and your team will be at the front and center of this effort partnering with several teams within OneDrive/SharePoint and making sure we are able to meet the migration timelines with high quality, reliability, zero impact to the end user scenarios and their data and doing so in a capacity and cogs aware manner. This is a unique role that requires the leader and the team to understand both the OneDrive and SharePoint backends at depth and the ability to straddle them effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software design and development experience.

  • Strong technical abilities, problem solving, design, rapid prototyping, coding, and debugging skills.
  • Good communication skills and a track record of cross-group/cross-discipline collaboration.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.

Understanding Roles at Microsoft
The top of this page displays the role for which the base pay ranges apply – Software Engineering M5.
The way we define roles includes two things: discipline (the type of work) and career stage (scope and complexity). The career stage has two parts – the first identifies whether the role is a manager (M), an individual contributor (IC), an admin-technician-retail (ATR) job, or an intern. The second part identifies the relative seniority of the role – a higher number (or later letter alphabetically in the case of ATR) indicates greater scope and complexity.

If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or the recruiting process, please send a request via the Accommodation request form.
