Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Director of Creative Services

The Director of Creative Services will oversee the design, branding, marketing activities, and the visual identity for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland. The Director will lead a talented creative team of multimedia specialists and student interns while ensuring an effective production process including concept development, task assignments scheduling, approval, and delivery. Projects will include oversight in the development of printed marketing materials, multimedia productions, web graphics, creating new social media visual campaigns, maintaining and protecting the brand, enforcing brand style guide and logo usage across campus, and leading creative direction of video, photography and multimedia projects in the BSOS Multimedia Studio.



 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the team in developing creative and innovative concepts for print, digital, photography, and multimedia deliverables.
  • Oversee the college’s brand and related materials and projects ensuring timely updates and dissemination of content.
  • Oversee conceptualization and production of printed communications material for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, including but not limited to advertising collateral, event invitations and support, booklets, postcards, stationary, and printed artwork. Collaborate, budgets, and contracts with campus printers and outside vendors to ensure quality of project proofs and final products.
  • Lead and mentor a talented creative team while ensuring an effective production process including concept development, task assignments scheduling, approval and delivery.
  • Provide strategic graphic design, photography, videography, motion graphics, and art direction for multiple concurrent print and multimedia projects.
  • Develop digital designs for campus signage, social media posts, and event support.
  • Serves as a liaison to the campus and college leadership to help maintain the college and university brand in both internal and external visual projects.
  • Lead the direction and planning of multimedia video and photography projects in the BSOS Multimedia Studio, including but not limited to college advertising video spots, student/faculty/alumni/donor spotlights, fundraising support videos, and event documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelors degree in fine arts, graphic design, or related field.

Experience:
10 years of experience in a creative field or design agency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) to design professional print pieces, edit raw photography, and complete non-linear video projects
  • Proficient skills with DSLR, Mirrorless and Cinema camera equipment
  • Experience with consolidating high-level academic information into understandable video content is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a creative team
  • Practiced organization and communication skills including the ability to multitask and manage multiple jobs at a time, to organize physical and digital files, and develop archival methods based on best practices
