Job Description
Position Summary/Purpose of Position:Under general supervision, functions as a leader in a team in preventive maintenance and/or structural trades work. Performs as a working member of the team with expertise in more than one area, provides guidance and instruction or supervision to others, and has responsibility for project completion. In organizations where the multi trades skill is required without the supervisory or leadership responsibility the incumbent must routinely perform duties in two or more trades.

Working at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (the STAMP) provides a unique University experience. The STAMP employs it’s own, small, self-sustaining maintenance staff who manage building systems, provide general maintenance services and support events, meetings, dining operations, retail spaces and multi-recreational areas including a bowling alley, gaming area and a movie theater. Working for the STAMP provides the opportunity to work in an individual unit while also collaborating with other University entities such as University Facilities Management, Residential Facilities and Dining Services.

The assigned work schedule for this position is currently Sunday – Thursday 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm. This position may require on call status.
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Four years progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • In a Non-Supervisory/Leader position, 5 years of experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques of the trade(s) where assigned (Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry and Painting) and of the OSHA regulations related to the trade(s) area (Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry and Painting).
  • Thorough knowledge of and skill in the practical application of electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as used in maintenance work; of basic mathematics including area, volume, weights and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions; of the care and storage of equipment and supplies used in the area where assigned.
  • General knowledge of the principles of supervision in the maintenance trades.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the trade(s) where assigned.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to lead and train skilled and unskilled employees in assigned trade(s) work; to prepare summaries and reports; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
